-------Soften the Ground-------
The rains
have come
in kind return
And soften
the ground
for spring,
For the seeds
we have
been saving
For this
moment
in time.
-------
-------Soften the Ground-------
The rains
have come
in kind return
And soften
the ground
for spring,
For the seeds
we have
been saving
For this
moment
in time.
-------
-------Trespass-------
Given the times
I am called to ask,
Who profits
from the land enclosed?
Property,
its borders and law,
Has kept the human
mind confined
Behind
a wall of trespass.
Dis-remembered
is the memory
That once we gathered
without threat
Without fear
Of our
arrest.
Now POSTED signs
protect the mines
And the poisoners
of water,
While the masses
long to be free again,
To live, to love,
to prosper.
So called to ask
in these times am I,
What happens
when all is sold?
-------
-------Together-------
Hope is a straight line
whereas solidarity
meanders
Steadfast and fluid
like a river
toward the sea.
To be human
is to be a child
of this earth
No more
or less
than any other
But sure as spring
the part
each sing
Comes whole
when sung
together.
-------
-------Imbolc-------
The moon returned
for a moment
tonight
I could see
from around my shadow
The clouds disperse
and the light
come through
Like spring
beneath the snow.
-------
-------Edge of the Quiet-------
It is the shy
edge
of the quiet season
Where the possibility
of song is held
Still
yet
within its shell.
I can hear it there
beneath the snow,
In the tree buds
not yet
budding
The river that runs
through all of us
Toward
the ocean
and the coming spring.
-------
-------Maybe-------
Enough is enough
of the nonchalant
abuse
of land and water
As if
the sacredness of life
pertained
to only human.
How was it that we
have come to this
unwell way
of thinking
That has put up walls
and drives its flag
into
the heart of nature?
Our heart.
The heart that bleeds
and beats
within each other.
We were not made
to pledge ourselves
to a single
god or nation
But maybe
rather
to love this world
and the breadth of all creation.
-------
-------Darkness Beyond-------
Above this city's light
in the comfort
of darkness beyond
What I see
and what
I have been taught
Is a stars light
I know
to follow
Through unknown
streets
toward home.
